Classical Studies

About Molly

Ever since delving into D’Aularies Book of Greek Myths and dressing up as Aphrodite at an AVA Gallery Greek Myths summer camp, Molly has loved the world of ancient Greece and Greek mythology. Turning that love into a professional pursuit, Molly began studying classics in high school and college at both The University of Pennsylvania and Connecticut College. She continued to keep up her studies on her own post-graduate and most recently volunteered at an archaeological dig at The Canons in London, UK. Molly aspires to complete a Master’s degree classical studies and hopes to soon be spending some time studying classics in Greece and Rome.

Classical Studies

While attending university at both Connecticut College and The University of Pennsylvania, Molly had the privilege of taking courses in a variety of subjects with fantastic professors such as Greek & Roman Myth with Professor Peter Struck, Ancient Greece with Professor Jeremy McInerny, and Ancient Rome with Professor Cam Gray. In these courses, she had the opportunity to explore subjects such as Caeser’s relationship to the Gaulic people and his portrayal of them, an analysis of Aeschylus’ interpretation of fate in Prometheus Bound, and a number of other writings on The Odyssey, The Homeric Hymns, The Aeneid, Ovid, and, of course, more writings by her favorite ancient Greek author, Aeschylus. In addition to this work, Molly has continued her studies outside of the classroom visiting Roman ruins sites in The UK whenever she can, reading Aristophanes’ works, Thucydides’ History of Peloponnesian Wars, and re-reading Fagle’s translation of The Odyssey probably more times than is truly necessary.

Archaeology

In May 2019, Molly had the opportunity to volunteer with Addyman Archaeology on their project at The Canons House & Grounds in Mitcham, London, UK. With Addyman, Molly was able to participate in the dig searching for Medieval artifacts, digging test pits, screening and sifting soil to recover small artifacts, such as pottery, flint, chart, and brick.
